"We have more staff to tend to the birds than most businesses in the industry which we believe to be essential to provide 24/7 care."

Our commitment to animal welfare

We pride ourselves in having a high level of animal welfare. Our farms are RSPCA approved and comply with ISO requirements. Animal husbandry is an important part of farm management. We recruit and promote experienced managers who care about animals, meaning we attract good people. All our Farm Managers are hands on to ensure that they have daily integration with their birds. We have more staff to tend to the birds than most businesses in the industry, which we believe to be essential to provide 24/7 care for our birds.

We support and abide by the 'five aspects of animal welfare under human control' formalised by the UK Farm Animal Welfare Council. These aspects are articulated in five freedoms which are expressed as:

  1. Freedom from hunger or thirst by ready access to fresh water and a diet to maintain full health and vigour.

  2. Freedom from discomfort by providing an appropriate environment including shelter and a comfortable resting area.

  3. Freedom from pain, injury or disease by prevention or rapid diagnosis and treatment.

  4. Freedom to express (most) normal behaviour by providing sufficient space, proper facilities and company of the animal's own kind.

  5. Freedom from fear and distress by ensuring conditions and treatment which avoid mental suffering.
